Although the medical examiner ruled it a homicide, after two years of investigation and the interview of over ninety witnesses, The FDLE has decided not to open a criminal investigation into the death of Nicholas Christie who was peppered sprayed to death, while strapped naked in a chair with a spit mask covering his mouth.  Christie suffered from several medical conditions and a list of his medications was in the back pocket of the clothes returned to his family.

Christie died of cardiac arrest after being sprayed ten times.  It is almost beyond belief that there will not be a criminal investigation into this matter by the State.  The State Attorney in Ft. Myers already cleared the Sheriff's office, as they always do, after a cursory investigation.

No one deserves to die like this. Christie was in custody on a minor violation and died after being sprayed for four days.  As a Ft. Myers criminal defense lawyer, I am appalled and shocked that there will be no real criminal investigation.  Even the News Press is outraged as reflected in Sam Cook's article.  You can visit the news press and see a picture of Christie strapped in the chair naked.  They may not have intended to kill him but there is no way that this cannot be manslaughter at a minimum.

This is what happens when the police investigate themselves.
